Bringing Learning Home: ECE Classroom Observation at Simukanka Primary School
As part of our commitment to strengthening Early Childhood Education (ECE), CSTZ, through the Intanda Project in partnership with CARE, conducted a Fidelity of Implementation (FOI) classroom observation at Simukanka Primary School.
The observation was led by caregiver Elizabeth Muzelenga, who delivered a lesson on “My Home.” With warmth and creativity, she engaged the learners by asking them where they live. One by one, the children responded with the names of their villages and communities. The classroom quickly filled with joy and excitement as the children confidently spoke about their homes, smiling proudly as they connected their learning to their everyday lives.
This seemingly simple activity carried great significance. It showed how caregivers are effectively applying the ECE curriculum by using interactive and participatory methods. Such approaches are vital in building children’s language skills, confidence, and self-expression, while ensuring that learning is meaningful and relevant to their realities.
For CSTZ and its partners, FOI observations provide an important opportunity to track how the curriculum is being implemented in classrooms. They also help us identify the right support needed for caregivers, ensuring that every child benefits from quality early learning experiences.
At Simukanka, the lesson on “My Home” reminded us that children learn best when education speaks to their world—when the classroom connects directly to the lives they live and the communities they belong to.
Together with CARE, CSTZ continues to invest in equipping caregivers with the skills and resources they need to create classrooms where learning is joyful, participatory, and life-shaping.
