"A 24-year-old Saret Chikabaka of Njola Mwanza community joined the Intanda project implemented by Care Zambia in July 2023. She has two children aged 6 and 3 years. These children are in grades two and one transitioning to preschool under the Nyenyezi Plus project implemented by CARE Zambia after undergoing the child stimulation lessons under the Intanda project. Saret has been a member of a parenting group since July 2023 where she has been receiving
child stimulation lessons and joined the village saving and loan association in June 2024 after the first share out of her group and since then she has been actively   . "In the first year when I joined the parenting group, I did not join the VSLA group, I depended on family members for financial support, but after my fellow parents had their first share out and started engaging in different businesses, I realized there was something I could do apart from depending on family members to support me finally. I now buy 25kg of flour at k510 and sale about K250 per week. Every month I sell about K6250 on aver
age,” said Yvonne.
"As a group, we have so far shared out twice, In the first share I received k3000 as my share and I bought 3 goats for breading and the rest of the money was used to buy food and other needs at home, in the second share I received k5000,and in this third cycle which is ending in June I am expecting to receive k7000. I now have 5 goats, and I plan to buy more after share out in June, my plan is that each child should have a goat for breading so that it can be helping in meeting the school needs for each when I have a lot of goats. I have also started a cooking oil business; I buy two buckets per week at k2200 and sale K3000. Despite not harvesting anything in the previous season due to drought, we have managed to buy books, uniforms for our children and food for the family throughout this difficult year, “Said Yvonne.
“I also have a plan of building a shop so that, currently i am mobile and sometimes it is difficult to sale,
I want a shop so that I can be stocking different products. As soon as we complete the farm work, the
building of a shop will start. “Said Yvonne.
